A powerful new collaboration between My Breast Cancer Support and Resilient Pathway Connections is offering a breath of fresh air—literally and figuratively—for cancer survivors in West Yorkshire. In partnership with the Leeds-based Balbir Singh Dance Company, the initiative is delivering a 16-week programme combining creative arts with weekly wellness walks in Carr Lodge Park.
Led by Indian classical dancer and educator Devika Rao, the programme integrates dance, poetry, music, photography, and interactive sound workshops, all designed to support the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of participants. Survivors are encouraged to express themselves in new ways, supported by professional artists and a strong sense of community.
At the heart of the project is Sara Williamson, a breast cancer survivor and passionate advocate for peer-led support. Her experience of navigating cancer care highlighted the urgent need for accessible, creative healing spaces. This partnership brings that vision to life—providing a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment for survivors to connect, create, and thrive.
Participants range from 35 to 80 years old, proving that creativity and resilience know no age limits. The initiative is already attracting interest from researchers and health professionals keen to explore the impact of art on health and recovery.
For those interested in joining or supporting the project, more details can be found by contacting alphie.bsdc@gmail.com or sara-williamson@lineone.net.
On Friday 11th October it was a privilege to attend the Unsung Heroes Awards in Wakefield Cathedral.
Our chair, Sara Williamson won an award as founder of the MY Breast Cancer Support Group and to recognise all the hard work she does helping those affected by Breast Cancer in Wakefield and surrounding areas.
